Upcoming 2-Day Training

Mental Health Awareness of Michiana invites community members and professionals to participate in our upcoming ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), the world’s leading suicide intervention workshop. This interactive, evidence-based training equips participants with practical skills to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and confidently provide life-saving support until additional help is available.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide
  • Engage in a supportive and direct conversation about suicide
  • Develop a safety plan with a person at risk
  • Connect individuals to appropriate resources and ongoing support
  • Increase confidence in providing immediate suicide intervention

Important Information

  • Attendance is required for both days to complete the training.
  • Participants who complete the full workshop will receive a certificate of completion.
  • Registration is limited to 30 participants.
  • Registration fee: $100 (Low cost is possible through in-kind support from the AFSP.)

About the Speakers:

Becky is an ASIST Registered Trainer who has been facilitating suicide intervention workshops since 2018. A registered nurse with more than a decade of experience in the mental health field, she has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and strengthening community connections. Becky currently serves as the Executive Director of the Oaklawn Foundation, where she leads efforts to advance mental health awareness, education, and access to care.

Ricky earned his Master of Social Work from IU South Bend and is the director of crisis services for Oaklawn Psychiatric Center. As a person in recovery from substance use and ASIST Registered Trainer, he uses his experience to assist individuals struggling with addiction and serious mental illnesses. He believes that a responsive crisis continuum of care transforms a community.
