We are pleased to announce
NINA STOECKEL
as the Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM)
Volunteer Highlight for July!
MHAM’s volunteer highlight for July – Dr. Nina Stoeckel – is a volunteer within our Pro Bono Counseling Program (PBCP). Dr. Stoeckel, PsyD, HSPP, is an assistant clinical professor within the University of Notre Dame’s Department of Psychology, and clinical psychologist serving the Michiana area.
When asked why volunteering with Mental Health Awareness of Michiana was important to her, she said:
“I have volunteered with the Pro Bono Counseling Project since May 2023. The Michiana community is very fortunate to have MHAM because they are doing an excellent job providing mental health education and services. I volunteer with MHAM because I share their ideas of wanting to eliminate mental health stigma and improving access to care particularly for those who have been historically marginalized. I believe that access to mental health services should be straightforward and more affordable and I appreciate MHAM making it easy to donate my time to this important cause.”
Why does she feel it’s important to contribute to the PBCP?
“In my small private practice I work with adults across the lifespan who struggle with concerns such as anxiety, depression, or trauma. I have a special interest helping individuals adjust to life transitions and working with individuals who are experiencing acute or chronic physical illness. I enjoy working collaboratively with my clients and tailoring my treatment approach to their specific needs and their personal and cultural background. I strive to foster an inviting and affirming environment for all my clients.”
“MHAM makes volunteering extremely easy! They are very well organized and there is no additional paperwork. Clients are very appreciative of the help and you will be part of a fun and welcoming community of other amazing volunteers.”
