We are pleased to announce
ERIN LYNCH
as the Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM)
Volunteer Highlight for January!
MHAM’s volunteer highlight for January – Erin Lynch – contributed to MHAM’ Asesoramiento Gratuito (PBCP) as a Master’s in Counseling Intern in the Fall, 2025 semester.
Erin recently graduated from IUSB with her Masters in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in December. She works full time with the Women’s Care Center as their Training Director. Erin’s primary interest lies in working with adults, with a special interest in couples counseling and the perinatal population.
“I pursued a counseling internship at MHAM because I love MHAM’s commitment to serving the underserved communities and I was excited to be able to serve clients who may not otherwise be able to receive services,” says Erin. “Additionally, when I heard about MHAM’s emphasis on serving perinatal clients, I was really drawn towards the organization as this is a passion of mine.”
Clinical Coordinator Maria Guarraci on Erin’s contributions to the PBCP:
“Erin has the gift of being able to develop therapeutic rapport with clients across diverse backgrounds. She has strong clinical skills and has been a wonderful asset to MHAM and to our community. Erin’s clients consistently report that they felt Erin was not only respectful of them as an individual, but their work with her helped them make significant improvements in their mental health.”
Short term therapy is a great service for individuals, couples and families with acute problems.
The goal of the PBCP is to increase access to mental health counseling for individuals, couples or families who are uninsured, underinsured, or are otherwise unable to afford mental health counseling. This is a short-term arrangement (up to 12 sessions with a 3-6 month period) at no cost to the client.
Erin shares what she enjoys about her work with MHAM:
"Being at MHAM this past semester was an incredible opportunity. Being able to receive excellent supervision, participate in incredible trainings, and getting to see a diverse caseload were just a few of the things I loved about being here. MHAM did an amazing job of preparing me to serve clients well and arming with me concrete resources and strategies.
I’d encourage any counseling or social work intern to consider MHAM because the caliber of training you will receive here is truly unmatched. Being able to learn and be supported by the staff at MHAM is an opportunity that I will be forever grateful for.
The highlight of my internship at MHAM was just being able to see the progress of so many of my clients over the course of the semester. As a new clinician, I think it’s really normal to have doubts about your abilities, but being able to walk alongside so many clients this semester was a true gift. More important than me seeing their growth, I loved that so many clients were able to see and articulate their own growth throughout the process which is something I hope they carry forward with them.
As I continue to serve women at a local nonprofit, I am grateful for all I learned during my time at MHAM.”
Thank you Erin for your hard work and dedication to improving mental health in Michiana!
