“When I opened my part-time private practice in South Bend, I knew that I was trying to juggle so much – parenting four busy children, running a business, and serving those in our community who need help. For the first year or two, I felt that I was doing pretty well at balancing “mommying” and “business,” but I was concerned that there were many community members who likely found the services I was offering cost-prohibitive. I was thrilled when Mental Health Awareness of Michiana approached me about participating in a new program that would offer free counseling services to members of the community who were in need, but unable to pay. As a volunteer therapist, I donate a minimum number of therapy hours over the course of the year. Thanks to the Pro Bono Counseling Program (PBCP), I am now able to balance motherhood, entrepreneurship, and service to a much wider community base.”
