We are pleased to announce
Isabella Montgomery, LSW
as the Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM)
Volunteer Highlight for September 2026!
MHAM’s volunteer highlight for September – Isabella Montgomery – is being honored for her contributions teaching MHAM mental health literacy classes and volunteering with the Pro Bono Counseling Project.
Isabella is a 2025 graduate of IUSB’s Master’s in Social Work program. She completed the MHAM Maternal Mental Health Fellowship in September of 2025. New to private practice, she nevertheless has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults. She works primarily with adolescent, athlete and perinatal populations. She integrates play, art, and movement in her practice with specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
“Volunteering with the PBCP is important to me because access to therapy and resources makes a broad community impact far beyond the therapy space. There have been points in my life where I have needed access to community resources, advocacy, where people showed up and volunteered their time for me. I have so much gratitude, and want to be able to give back to my community in that way. Having access to a support system, mental health care not only impacts the individual receiving services, but their children, family, and broader community. Building emotional skills, self efficacy and independence is social impact, harm reduction, prevention, that every human deserves access to.”
Linda Raven, Pro Bono Counseling Project Manager, explains Isabella’s ongoing relationships with MHAM programs.
“Isabella has had a long relationship with MHAM. She started by teaching education classes and is fabulous working with youth! She also participated in the Maternal Mental Health Fellowship. After she graduated, she joined the PBCP as a volunteer. She continues to see both perinatal clients pro bono, as well as those with Medicaid, since she works at Psych Pointe and can take most types of insurance. It’s so wonderful to have an excellent therapist, who works for social justice, is trained to work with perinatal people, and is able to see them regardless of their insurance situation!”
Isabella explains her draw to the Pro Bono Counseling Project:
“Most PBCP referrals are individuals that have never had therapy before… and it is truly an honor to create a therapeutic relationship with individuals for the first time. Seeing people put in the work in therapy to self-reflect…and allow themselves to feel it is the most beautiful thing to witness. Many people have never had a space to actually sit with themselves, know their needs matter, that trauma wasn’t their fault, and to be listened to with acknowledgement of their human experiences.”
At MHAM, our mental health workforce training initiatives are increasing opportunities for clinical training through our masters level internships and maternal mental health fellowship. We are increasing access to care for marginalized and underserved individuals and increasing access to quality mental health workforce training.
