Mental Health Awareness of Michiana Awarded Community Foundation of St. Joseph County Grant to Enrich Workforce Mental Health Initiative

South Bend, IN — Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM) is proud to announce it has received a financial grant from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County to support the continuation of a new workforce mental health initiative serving the Michiana community. This funding will allow MHAM to expand its impact by partnering directly with local employers to provide on-site mental health education, tools, and resources designed to strengthen workplace wellbeing.

The new initiative is focused on addressing the growing need for mental health support within professional settings. As employers increasingly recognize the connection between mental wellness, productivity, and organizational culture, MHAM’s program has offered accessible education for employees and managers, along with practical strategies that promote healthy work environments. The pilot phase introduces customized workshops, educational materials, and resource navigation tailored to the needs of participating organizations throughout the region.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to expand our mental health literacy classes into the workplace,” said Lisa Kelly, Executive Director of MHAM. “This grant from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County will support the Michiana community in new and exciting ways. We know that local companies are looking for ways to support mental health of their employees and managers. Our partnership with the community foundation allows us to pilot on site mental health education and resources for employees and managers that promote good mental health in the workplace.”

The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County is a charitable endowment that seeks to improve the quality of life for the citizens of St. Joseph County and their succeeding generations. By supporting MHAM’s workforce mental health initiative, the Foundation is helping address an essential component of community health — ensuring that individuals have access to meaningful mental health support where they live and work.

The mission of MHAM is to improve the quality of life for those living with mental illness & mental health concerns in Michiana through initiatives that eliminate stigma, build collaboration, and improve access to care, especially for those who have been historically marginalized. We achieve that through many channels, including public outreach such as resource tables and education classes, training for providers, our Pro Bono Counseling ProjectPeer Support services, and free mental health screenings and referrals to other community programs.
