Everwise Foundation awards grant to MHAM

Mental Health Awareness of Michiana Awarded Everwise Foundation Grant to Enrich Workforce Mental Health Initiative

South Bend, IN — Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM) is proud to announce it has received a grant from the Everwise Foundation to expand one of our newer developments – the Maternal Mental Health Workforce Initiative.

This new grant allows MHAM to continue addressing the growing demand for trained clinicians in Michiana through the Maternal Mental Health Fellowship. Fellows receive extensive training, clinical experience, and weekly supervision to develop specialized skills in treating pregnant and postpartum women. The program also connects fellows with MHAM’s Pro Bono Counseling Project, which provides short-term counseling to community members facing financial and systemic barriers to care.

The Maternal Mental Health Project will bring together peer support specialists, master’s level interns, and trained health and mental health professionals to create a network of care that is not only evidence-based but deeply grounded in cultural responsiveness and community connection.

“We are delighted to receive this grant support of our new workforce mental health initiative from the Everwise Foundation,” said Lisa Kelly, Executive Director of MHAM. “This initiative supports the mental health needs of the Michiana community in a new and exciting way.”

The Everwise Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on endeavors that promote Lifelong Learning. They care about the communities we serve, which means providing the kind of financial support that allows worthy organizations to do their exceptional work.

“We know that local companies are looking for ways to support mental health of their employees and managers. Our partnership with Everwise Foundation will allow us to develop and pilot on site mental health education and resources for employees and resources that promote good mental health in the workplace.”

The mission of MHAM is to improve the quality of life for those living with mental illness & mental health concerns in Michiana through initiatives that eliminate stigma, build collaboration, and improve access to care, especially for those who have been historically marginalized. We achieve that through many channels, including public outreach such as resource tables and education classes, training for providers, our Pro Bono Counseling ProjectPeer Support services, and free mental health screenings and referrals to other community programs.
