As we reflect on this past year at Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM), one thing shines brighter than anything else – our volunteers.
MHAM simply would not be able to serve the Michiana community without the tireless dedication, compassion, and expertise of the individuals who generously give their time and talents to support mental health.
From the professionals who offer their services through our Pro Bono Counseling Project to the educators who lead our continuing education classes, our volunteers are the backbone of everything we do. They make it possible for individuals and families to access vital resources regardless of income, and they help build a stronger, more compassionate network of care in our region. Thanks to their commitment, we’ve been able to create spaces for learning, healing, and connection – without cost barriers – at a time when mental health support is more important than ever.
Our public events, too, are deeply enriched by volunteer support. Whether it’s staffing a resource table, helping set up an event such as our annual Family Fun Fair in Howard Park or our new annual Cake Festival, greeting guests, or participating in panel discussions, volunteers help make our community-wide programming warm, welcoming, and impactful. Their presence ensures that every event promotes awareness, reduces stigma, and invites collaboration among organizations, professionals, and everyday people alike.
“Volunteers are our unsung heroes,” says Lisa Kelly, Executive Director. “Our events are successful because of the support of our volunteers. We truly couldn’t do all that we do in the community without them.”
MHAM believes that mental health is a shared responsibility, and our volunteers are a powerful example of that belief in action. They help carry out our mission to make mental health support more accessible, to educate and empower our community, and to advocate for a future where no one feels alone in their struggles.
To every volunteer who gave their time this year – thank you. You are helping to change lives in quiet, powerful ways. You are a vital part of the MHAM family, and we are deeply grateful for your ongoing support.
Here’s to you – and to a new year of compassion, service, and continued hope.
At MHAM, we see every day how much connection and support can change someone’s life. Your generosity helps make possible our education classes, Pro Bono Counseling Project, peer support, mental health screenings, and public events that bring people together and open the door to healing. These programs are creating hope for individuals and families across Michiana – and we couldn’t do it without you.
Thank you for being a part of the MHAM family and for making mental health a priority in Michiana.
