Trauma Informed Screening & Assessment Training

Working with Children and Families Impacted by Complex Trauma

Children and families impacted by complex trauma often present with symptoms that can be misunderstood or misdiagnosed without a trauma-informed lens. MHAM’s November CE training session – hosted by Dr. Taylor Nicoletti – will explore how to recognize the difference between trauma-informed screening – a brief, structured inquiry – and trauma-informed assessment, a comprehensive, multi-domain evaluation to guide case conceptualization and treatment planning.

DATE: Friday, Nov. 14, 2025
TIME: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. EST
LOCATION: Elkhart Mission Services Campus, 154 Hively, Elkhart, IN 46517 (hybrid)
CONTACT: info@mhamichiana.org for more information

We will explore:

  • Examine domains of trauma-informed assessment (e.g., trauma/loss history, developmental history, caregiver functioning, strengths).
  • Identify risks of misdiagnosis when trauma exposure and responses are overlooked.
  • Learn strategies to enhance cultural responsiveness, engagement, and emotional safety.
  • Practice translating assessment findings into actionable treatment and service planning.
