Mastering the art of de-escalation is essential for maintaining safety, building trust, and responding with professionalism in challenging situations. This engaging and interactive course led by Carl Hetler with the City of South Bend, provides a practical framework for diffusing volatile moments before they escalate.

  • Learn practical verbal and non-verbal strategies to calm others—and yourself
  • Participate in role-play scenarios to build confidence and skill
  • Ask questions and collaborate on real-life challenges and difficult situations

About the Speaker: Carl Hetler serves as the Coordinator of Homeless Outreach for the City of South Bend. A pastor for the past 16 years, Carl has spent the last three years working to build a more caring and connected community for individuals experiencing homelessness, as well as the agencies that support them. His work focuses on housing, mental health, and substance use services.
