We are pleased to announce
ANGIE MILLS, LCSW
as the Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM)
Volunteer Highlight for July!
MHAM’s volunteer highlight for July – Angie Mills – is a volunteer clinician with the Asesoramiento Gratuito (PBCP). She has a background in criminal justice, inpatient and outpatient hospitals, and has ten years of experience at Washington High School in South Bend, IN. She is an adjunct professor of Social Work at Saint Mary’s and has been in private practice full-time for six years! Angie’s main focus is on Women’s mental health issues, including sexual abuse and trauma. She has completed EMDR training and has begun to use IFS more in her trauma work.
Pro Bono Counseling Project (PBCP) Coordinator Linda Raven on the importance of the PBCP within Michiana:
“Angie Mills often makes space in her schedule to include a PBCP client. She has extensive experience and gets consistently positive feedback from her clients. It’s such a pleasure to have committed, experienced clinicians like Angie in the PBCP whose values align with the goals of the PBCP.”
The goal of the PBCP is to increase access to mental health counseling for individuals, couples or families who do not have insurance or are otherwise unable to afford mental health counseling. This is a short-term arrangement (up to 12 sessions with a 3-6 month period) at no cost to the client.
Angie tells us what she enjoys about her work with MHAM:
“I’ve been in mental health for 20 years. I also teach at St. Marys. I am trained in EMDR and IFS. My focus is on Women’s issues, especially the areas of sexual abuse and trauma. I joined MHAM so I can help others that may not have access to services and desperately need them.
It may seem a challenge for new therapists who are considering this program. Working for ‘free’ is daunting as we are all so tired. However, it is rewarding for me to do that one appointment a week to give back.”

Did you know? To tackle the growing demand for trained clinicians, MHAM (an affiliate of Mental Health America) launched the Maternal Mental Health Fellowship, supported by the Valinhos Family Foundation. This comprehensive training program is designed for master’s-level interns and early-career social work and counseling professionals.
Fellows receive extensive training, clinical experience, and weekly supervision to develop specialized skills in treating pregnant and postpartum women. The program also connects fellows with MHAM’s Pro Bono Counseling Project, which provides short-term counseling to community members facing financial and systemic barriers to care.
