March 2024
We are pleased to announce
Elyse Chudzynski, LMHCA
as the Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM)
Volunteer of the Month!
MHAM’s volunteer of the month, Elyse Chudzynski, has been volunteering with the Asesoramiento Gratuito since October 2022!
Elyse first heard about the PBCP while working on their Masters in Counseling at IUSB, often sharing the PBCP with students during [their] internship at the IUSB Student Counseling Center!
After graduation, when I started working full-time as a counselor, I was excited to be able to join the PBCP to provide counseling to individuals who might not otherwise have access. Navigating our healthcare system is no easy task and mental health counseling has a history of being inaccessible to so many. I am proud to work for a private practice, Psych Pointe, that takes Medicaid and encourages Pro Bono work in order to serve our entire community, not just those who can afford help.
I am encouraged by the societal shift I’ve seen in those who seek counseling as the stigma attached to mental health services continues to fade.
Elyse says, “For those considering the PBCP, taking a Pro Bono client is not only a service to our community but also another step toward mental health equity.”
