Mental Health Awareness of Michiana Awarded Community Foundation of Elkhart County Grant to Continue Initiatives
South Bend, IN — Mental Health Awareness of Michiana (MHAM) is proud to announce it has received a $25,000 community investment grant from the Community Foundation of Elkhart County (CFEC) to expand our initiatives for the residents of Elkhart County.
From CFEC: Since 1989, the Community Foundation has partnered with donors to meet local needs, support students, and invest in the work of nonprofits. Together, we inspire good—helping strengthen the community we all share. The Community Foundation focuses on three priority areas that guide both our grantmaking and our community leadership efforts. These areas are informed by population-level data and local needs.
“We are privileged to serve Elkhart County residents and we are working hard to increase our reach,” said Lisa Kelly, Executive Director of MHAM. “The number of Elkhart residents participating in MHAM programs more than doubled the past two years.”
The mission of MHAM is to improve the quality of life for those living with mental illness & mental health concerns in Michiana through initiatives that eliminate stigma, build collaboration, and improve access to care, especially for those who have been historically marginalized. We achieve that through many channels, including public outreach such as resource tables and education classes, training for providers, our Asesoramiento Gratuito, Peer Support services, and free mental health screenings and referrals to other community programs.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Elkhart County organizations,” said Kelly. “Support from the Community Foundation of Elkhart County allows us to increase access to mental health literacy classes, events, and access to care initiatives to better meet the needs of residents who are struggling.”
