Integrating Ethics:

Culturally Sensitive and Trauma-Informed Approaches to Suicide Intervention

March 22, 2024, 10:00 am to 12:00 am (EST)

Location: Community Learning Center, St. Joseph County Public Library

Speaker:

Donna Azcuna Armentrout, Psy.D., HSPP

Psychologist at Notre Dame’s SPIRIT Clinic (Suicide Prevention Initiative – Research, Intervention, & Training)

Speaker Bio:

Donna Armentrout is a licensed clinical psychologist. Throughout her practice and research, she has explored how culture and justice issues impact mental health and wellness. She has a special interest in professional ethics when faced with complex concerns like suicide.

Description:

Suicide is a leading cause of death in the U.S. and a common referral concern in mental health treatment. There can be hesitation, however, in treating clients who present with self-injurious thoughts and behaviors, as these cases may appear ethically or diagnostically complex. This continuing education class explores trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches in suicide intervention with a special emphasis on professional ethics.

2 Ethics CE’s will be offered for Indiana licensed professionals (LCSW, LSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC).

Learning objectives:

1. Examine ethical concerns related to trauma-informed, culturally sensitive suicide intervention.

2. Discuss historical and current suicide treatments and their effectiveness.

3. Identify ethical suicide treatment strategies to apply in your practice and community.

2 hours of Ethics continuing education for LCSW’s, LSW’s, LMHC’s, LCAC’s, and LMFT’s, licensed in Indiana.
