Volunteer Highlight for May<\/span>!<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

MHAM\u2019s volunteer highlight for May \u2013 Angela Fitch<\/span>\u00a0<\/b>\u2013\u00a0is a volunteer clinician with the\u00a0Asesoramiento Gratuito<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(PBCP<\/b>). Angela graduated from Indiana University South Bend\u2019s (IUSB) Social Work program with her Master of Social Work with concentrations in mental health and addictions, and is currently a therapist with Cornerstone Family Therapy<\/strong><\/span> in Osceola, IN.<\/span><\/p>\n

MHAM Executive Director Lisa Kelly on the importance of the\u00a0PBCP<\/strong>\u00a0within Michiana:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted to highlight Angela\u2019s contributions to the Pro Bono Counseling Project. We are so fortunate to have dedicated clinical volunteers, like Angela, making an impact in the community.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/i><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The goal of the\u00a0PBCP<\/b>\u00a0is to increase access to mental health counseling for individuals, couples or families who do not have insurance or are otherwise unable to afford mental health counseling. This is a short-term arrangement (up to 12 sessions with a 3-6 month period) at no cost to the client.<\/span><\/p>\n

Angela tells us what she enjoys about her work with MHAM<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI believe my purpose is to help others and partnering with MHAM lets me live out my passion in another way. The thing I\u2019ve enjoyed most about\u00a0volunteering<\/span> is the people. MHAM and the PBCP allow me to surround myself with others who want to create change. That is such a fulfilling thing! I can\u2019t wait to see what MHAM and PBCP does in the coming years.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Did you know? To tackle the growing demand for trained clinicians,\u00a0MHAM<\/strong>\u00a0(an affiliate of\u00a0Mental Health America<\/strong><\/a><\/span>) launched the\u00a0Maternal Mental Health Fellowship<\/b><\/a><\/span>, supported by the\u00a0Valinhos Family Foundation<\/strong>. This comprehensive training program is designed for master\u2019s-level interns and early-career social work and counseling professionals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fellows receive extensive training, clinical experience, and weekly supervision to develop specialized skills in treating pregnant and postpartum women. The program also connects fellows with\u00a0MHAM\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>Asesoramiento Gratuito<\/b>, which provides short-term counseling to community members facing financial and systemic barriers to care.<\/span><\/p>\n
